FAIRYTALE MEGAVERSE
With each crossing of a sea, or border, he found it strange--almost impossible-- to believe he was even on the same planet, much less the same continent. Here, the sky was blue-- an impossible blue of all colours-- and the air smelled not of sand and spices, but of water and grass.
MANG I HAVE SUCH A THING FOR FAIRYTALES. So, I figured I might as well have a general idea what the entire world looks like and how it works!
VAGUE OVERALL WORLD
- VERY COLOURFUL;; I GUESS... BRAVESTORY/KINO'S JOURNEY/MIYAZAKI-ESQUE? will get bttr visual aide CREEYY.
- It's very very very big, and very spread out with a great many territories that are wildly different from one another... yet beautiful in its own savage, or cultured way. Being a strange planet, the continents constantly shift with one another, though it isn't known why. It was once a mega-mass pangea sort of thing, but now it is... not!
- Every 100 years or so, world maps need to rewritten. Navigation is more difficult in this world than it is in ours, but not by much. There are skilled navigators and geologists and anthropologists that make a living predicting the slovenly but ever-present movement of the continents and the people on them.
- Cultures arise and merge, divide and diminish as time passes. The only things that seem to remain constant are some of the bigger cities and the home of the Witches. Someday, perhaps... I'll write... a timeline HAHAHHA.
- The stories are set in the past, in the future, and in the present, and all over the world. LIKE I ALREADY IMPLIED. THE TECH TENDS TO CHANGE WITH THE TIMES! So, depending on the setting of the story, people can travel across the pastures/desert lands on like vespas or motorbikes, or they must travel sheep/bull-back. yes. Or by cart. Yes.
- Galleons/manmade islands/kind of boat motorhomes are pretty common.
- Magic-- otherwise known as PARTSEL, exists; But it is rare for "ordinary folk"/otherwise-known-as-CHARACTERS to come across instances of it, unless you know where, or when to look... or even better... if you aren't looking at all...!
- For the most part, partsel is a neutral, random thing... a sort of HICCUP that appears here and there, and USUALLY wherever your typical nomadic partsel-using (WITCHES ETC) folk happen to travel or settle or leave their partsel-enchanted items... There are many theories as to who these people are, the nature of their motivations, and to what/who they answer/pledge their loyalties.
- The answer to those questions however is quite simple. They are just agents of change. They bring about excitement...and sometimes pain and treachery, sometimes learning and inspiration in a usually very dully harmonious, and woefully conflict-free world.
As to the latter... They answer to me. Otherwise known as THE AUTHOR (will speak about THE AUTHOR in a bit). Another self-insert chara kinda sorta AHHAHAHA. EXCEPT HOT... - PARTSEL-USERS ARE PLOT BUNNIES. AND TO BE KAWAII DESU, THEY TEND TO RABBIT FAMILIARS-- of all sizes-- INSTEAD OF CATS! RABBITS HAVE THIS THING ABOUT HANGING AROUND PARTSEL/DEPOSITS OF PARTSEL.
- Witches' personalities vary like the world and can be very kind... or cruel... Some have very poor control of their partsel. Others, prodigies and reality benders.
The kind you meet is not for you to decide. (it is for me the author to decide hurf) - but yeah none of this is known by the characters
- RIGHT UH. Mostly, these are very soft reconstructions of fairy tales, and deal a lot with tests of friendship and loyalty! AND UHHH YEAH. BASICALLY W/E THE HELL I FEEL LIKE.
- OH YEAH RITE there are certain peoples that are like OH MY GOD WITCH! TERRIBLE! and there are others that are like OH MY GOD WITCHES LET ME WORSHIP. The Author just deploys certain witches to certain "stories" wherever he/me see fit.
- etc etc. it's all very open-ended.
- Sometimes known as "ARTHUR", "WRITER", "WEAVER", "KING OF STORIES", "PRINCE OF TALES" and "LORD OF THE LOST THINGS"-- The Author is a morally ambiguous individual whose appearance is about as consistent as smoke. The characters are blissfully unaware of the author, forrr the most part!
- AS TO WHAT THE *~*AUDIENCE/READERS*~~* KNOW.. Whether or not he has any PARTSEL himself is never made quite clear! Nor the extent of his ability/strength/cunning! Just that all witches, warlocks, and partsel-users answer to him, ALWAYS. For the most part... he does not interfere directly in stories, rather he sends change to a setting, to watch what unfolds.
- SPOILURS: he has a rabbit head in his true form AHHAHHA. Link
THE SETTING
- THIS IS ALL UNDERCONSTRUCTION LKHSDLGKJ AHHHHHHHH... But, uhm... The general overview is that:
- LOTS OF ROADS. The condition of these roads vary depending on where you are.
- MORE OR LESS, each big city has a royal family/line. The lines don't tend to be as old as one would expect, as new rulers come up OFTEN AND A LOT. Commoners/youngest borns have this thing about marrying princesses/princes/what have you, and winning rulership positions!
- WEST/desert lands: Dark-skinned people live in the deserts. Here, the main method of transportation-- regardless of time-- is by magic/partsel carpet, or rather carpets that have come in close contact with benign (maybe) desert witches. Once a carpet leaves these lands, however, they can no longer fly.
It is very hot, and people wear very high shoes to keep from direct contact with the sand (and again, they FLLYYY via magic/partsel carpet). A certain Booker Sola invented a material known as SOLAPHANE some decades back! It has the density of our world's cellphane, but has remarkable properties such that it blocks son as well as solid rock, but is transparent! Its use has become popular in the main palace, but has yet to reach the masses.
Glass, sometimes described as "melted sand" is the main export from the desert lands, particular stained glass. Watches are uncommon in the desert lands. Most use marked hour glasses that turn over automatically. - NORTH/winter lands: It is place of fierce winters--in which the rivers, are completely frozen rock solid-- and very mild, cool summers. At the main city, the buildings are old, and seem to be composed of pressed snow. There are bridges over the rivers that are silver-wrought, and many lanterns with blue fire flames!
As one moves away from the city, one would find smaller villages that are Russian-inspired in a ways! Also, lots of pine trees. And mountains and valleys. When the world develops technologically, the North seems to be one of the few territories that maintains its forests. - SOUTH/cultural centers:
THE PRISTINE CITY
A "perfect," sprawling metropolis, located in close proximity to that of the CORRUPT CITY. Both cities are rivals, but the PRISTINE CITY knows that it cannot defeat the CORRUPT CITY lest it destroy the SKY CITY as well. So it doesn't....... :'C
It's a mishmash of British and French high-society thruout da ages btw.
THE CORRUPT CITY
An inversion of the Pristine city, fundamentally. They are almost identical in set-up... HOWEVER, the CORRUPT city is dirtier, and polluted. The only good thing about it is that its smog keeps the SKY CITY afloat..
THE SKY CITY
A city that stays afloat among the clouds thanks to the CORRUPT CITY's smog. Its inhabitants travel about with steampacks. At the SKY CITY, there is also a FACTORY that helps maintain the weather and train fighters to ward off roaming sky pirates. (NOT SURE IF I'M KEEPING THIS ASPECT HAHAH) - East/water lands:
THE CITY OF CANALS
Just off the shores of the OCEAN lies the CITY OF CANALS. People get around in boats and are able to buy supplies in order to reach the more economically developed REEF CITY. It's heavily Mediterranean inspired!
THE REEF CITY/UNDERWATER LANDS.
In the great oceans in the world, there is a city made completely out of coral reefs. Oxygen bubbles are provided for those that do not possess gills. Travel is accessible through giant fish buses that eat their passengers and spit them up at their desired locations.
Because the reef city is dark, puffer fish with little lights in them are used as lanterns. SEAWITCHES help humans harvest said fish and put glowy things in their food. So they uh. Glow. Yes.
Their main export is ink which they get from squid. - THE MOVING CITY/home of the witches.
A rather grave, old city with moving buildings powered by partsel. It is home of witches. Every week or so, the entire city relocates...
Whether or not it exists is often debatable, because it moves about so much!
TRIVIA
- Partsel literally means "plot" in Bulgarian!
